A Spice Girls musical?? Just in time for my girl power fix!!

So I was going through Wikipedia, and somehow (I won’t say how – but I may have been searching for it) I ended up on the Spice Girls page.  And so I was kinda skimming through it, when I came across a fantastic piece of information: a mention of something called Viva Forever: The Musical.

Yes, you read that right.  A musical!! A Spice Girls musical!!

I’m not sure I can put into words exactly just how excited this makes me.

I absolutely love musicals, especially if they are songs that I would know before getting there.  We Will Rock You and Jersey Boys were amazing, as was the stage version of Mama Mia!.  Sadly, I did not get the chance to see Rock of Ages when it was here in Toronto, although hopefully the movie version will be great.

The idea of a musical using the songs of the Spice Girls makes me incredibly happy.  I grew up in the 90s, and as a 12-year-old girl in 1996 (when “Wannabe” first came out) meant that I embraced the idea of ‘Girl Power’ and could sing along to every song. “‘Who D.o You Think You Are” was my favourite song, even though the video was never released here (at least, I think it wasn’t!!).

Watch “Who Do You Think You Are.”

I may even know the dance for “Stop.”  Yes, still.  Give us some rum, put it on at a party, and watch us go!!

So the idea of being able to sit for two hours and watch an entertaining story and sing along to the songs that empowered my girly side (although I was always more of a Mel C-type tomboy) is one of the best pieces of news I have heard in a while.  I can guarantee you that if they come to Toronto, I will be buying tickets for sure!!

Of course, that is if they do come here.  If not, I guess a road trip to New York is in order!!

When the girls reunited for a world tour in 2008, I was unable to go.  I was having problems with my car, and I had to put down a considerable chunk not long before the show, and therefore I was forced to miss out.

Believe me, that still counts as one of the moments I wish I could go back in time and change my answer from, “No, sorry, I can’t,” to “Screw the car!!  Of course I’ll go!!”  But alas, it was one of many questionable (although admittedly responsible) choices I made.

Watch “Goodbye.”

There’s been rumours online of a possible second reunion.  Let me tell you, if it happens, I’M SO THERE!!  I’ve learned from my mistake.  I will not miss another Spice Girl show.

I still remember forcing my dad to take me to watch Spice World when it came out.  I love it!!  It had all the songs, and it had the girls, and it was awesome!!  I saw it again a few years ago, and wow.  I’d never imagined what kind of willpower a parent had to have to not leave the theater halfway through.  It was terrible!!

And still, I love them.  They can do no wrong in my eyes.  Well, except with some outfit choices, but otherwise, no wrong.  I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed that I get the chance to see what I’m sure will be an amazing show.

Oh, and for those of you who know me well: this would make an amazing birthday present!!  Just saying.
